What are the types of jigs we used?

 TYPES OF JIGS

Types of Jigs: Jigs are grouped as:

Drill jigs are generally used for drilling, reaming, tapping, chamfering, countersinking, counterboring etc as shown in

Boring jigs are used for boring the holes.

    a) drill jig.                             b) boring jigs

                                 OPEN JIG

Box jigs are generally used where operation is performed on more than one side of the job.

Jigs are generally named according to their construction, which are as under:

Template Jig: This is the simplest type of jig which can be manufactured at least expense. If bushings are not used the whole jig is hardened. When in use this jig is fixed over or into the job without any clamp.

Plate Jig: This jig is similar to the template jig but plate jig is found with built-in clamp to hold the job. It is also found with or without bushings.

Angle Plate Jig: This jig is generally used for such a type of job, which is machined at right angle to its mounting locator. If machining angle is other than 90°, the modified angle plate jig is used.

Channel Jig: This is a box type jig having simplest form. The job is held between its two sides and the operation is performed from the third side.

Leaf Jig: This jig is found in small form of box jig having hinged leaf with cam type latch for easier loading and unloading.

Indexing Jig: This jig is generally used for making accurately spaced holes or performing other machining operations around a job. Large size indexing jigs are known as rotary jigs.
